New Salary Requirements for Work Permits in Belgium and in the Netherlands


Belgium - New Salary Requirements for
« B type Work Permit »

The minimum annual salary required to get the "B type Work Permit" has increased on 1st of January 2012.

  • 37 721 € for qualifying candidates
  • 62 934 € for executive level positions and senior management positions

People who apply for Work Permits as trainees are not concerned by these changes.

All the new and renewal work permit applications submitted from 1st of January 2012 that do not respect the new wage requirement could be rejected.

Netherlands - New Salary Requirements for highly skilled Migrants

The wage requirement for highly skilled migrants have changed on 1st of January 2012 in the Netherlands.

The minimum annual salary to get a work authorization for highly skilled foreign workers who are not citizens of Switzerland or the European Economic Area is:

  • 51 239 € for migrants from 30
  • 37 575 € for younger than 30
  • 29 931 € for foreign graduates from a Dutch institution of higher education

For the employers who are already accepted in the Highly Skilled Migrant scheme, a new pilot programme starting on 1st of January 2012 and running for 2 years, lets highly skilled migrants apply for a short term work authorization (up to 3 months).

The minimum salary required for short stays is the same as for migrants from 30, that is to say: 51 239 €/year.
